I am deeply grateful for the family’s understanding and their appreciation of the work involved.

The painting involves a high level of complexity: the ten members (three generations) of the family are portrayed on a right-angled divided relief structure and in the background, there is a (virtual) landscape painting also on a relief structure without a single right angle in its composition. Notice the confluences between the two multiverses. I find this interference stimulating and exciting.

Many years ago, I was deeply impressed by a remark in an interview with Stephen Hawking; he said: “The universe needs us to be observed”. This is a hardcore natural scientist transcending the borders of spirituality and religion! In the painting you see how the wood knots on the wooden table are turned into eyes; like the branches of the tree of life (I wanted a feeling of Last Supper in the situation) and in the background you find ten trees from 3 key places of the three family branches: New Zealand, Midtsjælland of Denmark, and Iceland.

Lars Physant, Barcelona, November 2023

This family portrait process started in 2018 has been finished this year, due to a series of deadlines that had to be introduced in my work programme.
