These three paintings are all from a period where I worked intensely with introspective naturalism<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In my square paintings I love to use a relation which immediately establishes the harmonious relation 3:5, as a shape for the external skeleton of the painting. Often, but not always, the (recognizable) realistic expression is in the inner part of the painting meaning the outer world<\/strong> and the non-realist (abstract) part is in the outer area of the painting meaning the inner world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If we calculate the area, the relation between the two realities is 16:25 or 9:25, which is natural in my reality, where I have often feared to lose contact with the external reality, \u201cthe outer world\u201d<\/p>\n

This division 3:5 also makes me think of the dotted lines that Erik Fischer uses to describe the composition of Eckersberg drawings (Danish painter 1783-1853) something which can be used as a non-visible constitution of harmony. The square and the circle seems to me like the best metaphor in two dimensions of the extension of the great universe and I want that each one of my works had the character of a small universe in itself.<\/p>\n

Any type of perception of the outside world, within the limits of our bodies, is always mixed with a reality established in our inner self \u201cinterior\u201d: our state of mind, memories, drowsiness, wakefulness, vivid images, our agitation after an argument, the images burned onto our minds like photonegatives after we have been dazzled by the sun, flashbacks, shiver or experiencing extreme heat, etc.<\/p>\n

At the same time, our perception (or at least mine) is not only related to our inner and outer limits. Our attention slides imperceptibly from our interior to our exterior, or from our exterior to our inner self. Sometimes we are \u201cfocused\u201d on one, other times we \u201cwaver\u201d between the two, while at other times the transition is drastic, as if the line between before and after were cut with a knife. These moments of change are important for me and are central to my work.<\/p>\n
